The IASP 2018 World Conference in Isfahan, with the theme of “Towards sustainable cities and communities: fostering innovation ecosystems” will explore the role of STPs (Science and Technology Parks) and AOIs (Areas of Innovation) in the formation of the innovation ecosystem and the sustainable development of cities. The conference will bring together experts from STPs and other AOIs, technology-based incubators, academia, the public sector and business to discuss and debate in depth the latest industry trends.
In September 2015, the UN adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to guide global action and investment for sustainable development over the next 15 years, one of which focuses on Sustainable Cities and Communities. Collaboration between different actors and exchange of knowledge between countries are crucial for successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda: as typical triple helix organisations, STPs and AOIs can play a central role in the process, supporting the orientation of their cities towards the knowledge economy and promoting sustainable development.

Search Matters is an annual event that not only showcases the EPO’s patent search strategies and techniques, but also offers an unrivalled look behind the scenes at the Office. According to participants – many of whom are repeat attendees – it is more a “must-have” than a “nice-to-have”.
In 2018, Search Matters will be held in The Hague. In a series of workshops, EPO examiners will provide useful information about, for example:
Asian prior art
free search tools such as Espacenet
complexity of searching in chemical or biotechnological fields.
One of the highlights of the programme, which covers a wide range of technical fields, is the chance for participants to talk to individual examiners “at-the-desk” and question them about how they search in specific technical areas.
The programme is rounded off by plenary lectures on the challenges of searching and the internet of things.
Who should attend: Patent search professionals from business, academia and IP firms.

12-13 June 2017 | Stockholm, Sweden AESIS Impact of Science 2017 One of the big issues in science policy is how “societal impact” and “scientific quality” relate to each other. Some argue that “societal impact” stimulates the quality of research in itself by increasing its relevance and combining insights from different stakeholders. Others have stated that the best research creates ground-breaking new insights which will inevitably lead to groundbreaking impact in society. Some are convinced that the quality of a research might decline if there is too much pressure to increase impact on society. In order to create effective policies we need to understand these processes and in which situations which effect occurs.In this conference we will share and discuss worldwide instruments which have proven to be effective to stimulate both the quality and the societal impact of science. In order to find mutual grounds for early stage alliances at this conference we will discuss all aspects of this complex ambition.The Impact of Science 2017 conference will evaluate methods and best practices around the world on:
Policy strategies for impact;
Strategic Alliances with stakeholders;
National, international and institutional instruments for achieving impact;
Current issues on public engagement, evidence-based policy and harmonising definitions.
