After serving in different roles with increasing responsibility since 1998 at Max-Planck-Innovation GmbH, an affiliate of Max-Planck-Society with 30 employees, Ulrich took over his current position as Member General Management in 2005. Among other general management tasks he is especially responsible for the spin-off department coordinating coaching and consulting activities and the portfolio management.

At Max-Planck-Innovation GmbH Ulrich advised and supported numerous start-ups in their pre-seed phase as well as during early and later company stages until an exit and was involved in many other technology transfer transactions.

After developing the concept of the pre-seed incubator „Life Science Inkubator“ (Bonn) Ulrich served as its initial CEO from 2007 until the end of 2008. Later he took a leading role in establishing the „Photonik Inkubator“ (Göttingen) and supported fundraising efforts of the Lead Discovery Center (Dortmund).

Further he is or was member or chairman of the board of several start-ups, three start-up incubators, two venture funds and also jury member of the grant scheme „EXIST Forschungstransfer“ of the german ministry of economy.

Since 2016 Ulrich is member of the board of ASTP-Proton and took over the role of Vice President Survey and Impact.

After graduating from the business school at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich he started his business career with an international distributor as product manager for Hewlett Packard peripheral products and later coordinated the activities of the product managers within the overall HP product portfolio with sales in excess of 130 Mio. Euro.
